Analysis statoil IT - Case Study Example Scandinavian countries are known for their high labor taxes and keeping your workforce expenses under control is one of the key elements of successful long term growth. The company also has to stay on top of modern achievements in technology and engineering. Having said that, it is not very critical to use every bleeding edge technology that comes on the regular bases. The company operations mainly depend on heavy machinery and large scale construction projects that have a long life. Therefore, the preferences go to more stable and time-proven technologies when it comes to drilling, mining and explorations. However, the communication between different teams, ways that information can be spread between employees are updated more frequently than oil business related hardware. That is why one of the current tactical objectives is to align your workforce with the current technological advancements that are already used successfully in other industries, but is not yet know by Statoil staf f. It is clear that a simple introduction of the new technology would not bring desired benefits on the long run. Statoil seeks a fundamental transformation of the way employees approach some of their daily activities. The belief is that modern technology, such as Internet, private PC etc. would provide great collaborative tools for the whole Statoilââ¬â¢s workforce.... It also adds a nice perk on top as a free multimedia tool that the whole household can benefit on. Although, the short term objective is very clear, Statoil needs to put some success measures in place to avoid transforming a business improving initiative in a nice free gift from the company that does not provide any improvement in individual productivity. In the next section we try to define exact measures that would help Statoil to focus on their short term goals and clearly define the measure of the outcome. It is difficult to directly connect the productivity of employees and the time they would spend with their new toys. Also the choice of location of the new media PC has two sides. On one side it extents the work related matters into the private household space, but on another it offer new ways to entertain and spend free time. Statoil has to also keep in mind European attitude towards clear separation between work and private time. It is exceedingly difficult to ask your employ ees to put extra effort outside of normal working hours. There is another way of indirectly controlling or measuring changes in the way the employees approach certain business activities. One way is to define some metrics that reflect the level of collaboration achieved through new connectivity tools, such as conferencing. For example, one can devise a metric of how many meetings have been done online compared to offline ones. Offline meeting in a global company with many distributed office require a lot of time spent in commute, not to mention extra budget that goes with it. The number of offline conferences/meetings that were transformed in pure virtual remote participation ones will provide a clear indication

Employee Relations - Research Paper Example nd extends maximum opportunities to the employees to participate and furnish inputs in the organizational planning and decision making initiatives (Moynihan, 2008, p. 199). All the activities of an HR administrator need to be focused on the creation of effective performance leaders and extending motivation to employees. In that sense, in the contemporary health care organizations, the role of an HR administrator has graduated from merely being an evaluator to being a precursor and facilitator. Performance management is the key discipline that needs to be taken care of by the organizations striving to be leaders in terms of quality of patient care. Performance management involves a plethora of activities like goal setting, appraising performance, streamlining communication, extending coaching and feedback for enhancing performance, initiation and implementation of employee development programs, and rewarding achievements in a time and appropriate manner (Moynihan, 2008, p. 199). As a VP of HR in a health care institution, I came across multiple lacunas marring the performance management function in the organization I served. In an academic context it will be really interesting to delve on some of the salient performance management related faults I came across in my organization. One major performance management challenge faced by the organization in which I worked was a lack of clear purpose. Their did not exist any systematic mechanism for planning the organizational work and selecting pragmatic expectations, promptly rewarding good performance, placing a system for a continual monitoring of performance, extension of periodical feedback related to employee performance, and encouraging the development of a capacity to perform (Moynihan, 2008, p. 61). The organization simply lacked a clear perception of the factors that were critical to employee performance and a viable performance culture, based on individual accountability and a timely delivery of results

constitution :: essays research papers
The Constitution itself did not mention political parties, and it was assumed that none was going to arise. But this was soon proven wrong when the debates between the Federalists and Anti-Federalists in 1787 and 1788 stir into a two party system. This soon led to a permanent feature in American policies. In early times, groups of people formed temporary assembly and voted together either for or against a specific policy. When the policy was settled, the assemblies would dissolve. The Federalists and Anti-Federalist was sort of like these assemblies, but they didnââ¬â¢t dissolve that easily. à à à à à The 1790ââ¬â¢s became known as the Federalist Era because a Federalist President led it. Political parties began to form around two leaders, Hamilton and Jefferson. The Federalist Party supported Hamilton and his financial program. The opposing party that was known as the Democratic-Republican Party supported Jefferson and tried to elect candidates in different states who opposed Hamiltonââ¬â¢s program. The French Revolution later hardened the formation of these two parties. Americans became sharply divided over whether it should or should not support France. à à à à à The Federalist strength was greatest in the northeastern states and the places that favored the growth of a federal power. They supported British and aided businesses, national bank, and tariffs. Made up of the rich businessmen and large landowners. The Democratic-Republican power were the party whose supporters were mainly from the southern states and where people favored the protection of state rights and a weak central government. They supported French, favored agriculture, no national bank, and opposed tariffs. 2). Explain the circumstances that lead to the incorporation of a Bill of Rights in our federal Constitution. State two rights guaranteed to you by the Bill of Rights, and explain what privileges each right grants to you and what privileges each right grants to you and what obligations each right demands to you.

The reading that I decided to summarize is called ââ¬Å"The Emergence of the Star System in Americaâ⬠by Richard Decorate. The topic Is very useful because It emphasizes the Idea of the star system. The system Includes different kinds of Information that was created about actors.The velveteen of the system was influenced and developed through three transformations like ââ¬Å"the discourse on acting, the picture personality and the starâ⬠The reading is significant because the write takes the reader thought the Journey about what perception of film actors used to be before 1907 and how the incept of performers kept evolving and changing till the year of 1914.The first transformation Is the discourse on acting. Decorate argues that before 1907, film actors were not popular and all the ââ¬Å"Journalistic discourse of the time focused primarily on the scientific aspects of the apparatusâ⬠). It was assumed that films were products that did not have any involvement of hum an labor until the rise of another discourse in 1907, the importance of the labor in film production.The discourse led to a new knowledge which created a ââ¬Å"struggle destined to resituated the site of textual radioactivity for the spectator away from the work of the apparatus Itself' Another very Important aspect Is that at the time all those who appeared In films were called picture performers and their activities were described as posing because the activity of acting in film was known only in terms of photography due to ââ¬Å"struggle between a photographic and a theatrical conception of the body' (Decorate, p 19). In 1908, a huge decrease in demand of documentary films led to development of dramatic films.It led too huge popularity of people who appeared in films and who had a lend of the prolific, film and the real stories. The blend led to strengthening of the concept called the picture performer and acceptance of the fact that the ââ¬Å"art of acidulous be translated to the screenâ⬠(Decorate, p 22). The acceptance allowed society to legitimate the concept of cinema and get new tastes of consumption like a combination of good action and acting in order to appeal to large audiences. The second transformation is the picture personality.Actors presented themselves with fictional names and public personalities. Three kinds of knowledge appeared hill creating the personality. The first one Is the circulation of the name that emphasizes the ââ¬Å"difficulty of separating the circulation of the players' names and the circulation of the films they were inâ⬠(Decorate, p 25). Actors were identified in specific films because of names. The second knowledge is intellectuality. It ââ¬Å"constituted the picture personalityâ⬠. The knowledge was created by both the cinema and press. Personalities of performers supposed to be Just like their characters had.The knowledge emphasized stage experiences of actors. The last ell known transformation Is the star. Stars have always been ââ¬Å"characterized by a fairy through going articulation of the paradigm professional Life/private life. With the emergence of the star, the question of the player's existence outside his/her work in films entered discourseâ⬠Around 1914, there was already no restriction in terms of knowledge and textually of players in films. Personal lives of stars became a new kind of a popular knowledge. Professional and personal lives became self-controlled film characters.Eventually, the main difference between ââ¬Å"the picture personality and he star is that the later supports a family discourseâ⬠The redundancy and closure of the two lives led to the emergence of the star concept with its system and power. The writing is very useful it terms of understanding how the concept of the star was created and why it evolved in certain ways. It was also very helpful to understand the emergence in terms of the three key transformations likeliest discourse on acting, the picture personality and the star. The transformations allowed me to learn about interconnected aspects and facts which led to the concept of the star system.

Provider Views Of Harm Reduction Versus Abstinence...
ARTICLE REVIEWED Henwood, B., Padgett, D., and Tiderington, E. 2014. Provider Views of Harm Reduction Versus Abstinence Policies Within Homeless Services For Dually Diagnosed Adults. The Journal of Behavioral Health Services Research, Vol. 41(1), 80-89. TOPIC The article, ââ¬Å"Provider Views of Harm Reduction Versus Abstinence Policies Within Homeless Services For Dually Diagnosed Adultsâ⬠, by Dr. Benjamin Henwood, Dr. Deborah Padgett, and Emmy Tiderington endeavors to address how front-line service providers (providers), who work with those with serious mental health issues, addiction, and chronic homelessness, view harm reduction policies as opposed to the abstinence approach to homeless services (Henwood, Padgett, Tiderington, 2014, p. 80). The aim of researchers is to apply the findings to the behavioural health care of this segment of society (Henwood, Padgett, Tiderington, 2014, p. 80). RESEARCH PROBLEM Traditional methods of providing homeless services to the dually diagnosed homeless require individuals to abstain from substance abuse (Henwood, Padgett, Tiderington, 2014, p. 80). This approach, referred to as treatment first (TF), fails to address issues associated with chronically homeless adults who had become habituated to this lifestyle (Henwood, Padgett, Tiderington, 2014, p. 81). The rigidness of this approach, which includes abstinence and behaviour modification such as ââ¬Å"curfews, daily supervision, mandatory attendance at day treatment, no visitors,
